Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Ashoka, Young Men at Risk
- Deadline
- July 31, 2008
- Description
The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Changemakers, an initiative of Ashoka, have announced a global competition to capture the most innovative approaches to addressing pressing societal problems confronting young men between the ages of 15 and 25.
Young Men at Risk: Transforming the Power of a Generation, the fourth in a series of competitions staged by the foundation and Changemakers, invites organizations to submit unique approaches to helping young men overcome such challenges. A panel of judges will select approximately twelve finalists and three winners, each of whom will receive $5,000 to pursue and expand their work. Select entries from U.S. organizations also will be invited to submit proposals for a total of up to $1 million in grants to support the most promising innovations.
In addition to identifying models that can be shared and replicated, RWJF and Changemakers seek to foster a dialogue among thought leaders from the academic, funder, and business communities who are working with this generation of young men — a generation increasingly at risk from gangs, addiction, crime, violence, and mental health problems. These challenges are often the greatest for young men of color in the United States where traditional education, justice, and healthcare systems are not consistently providing them with the support they need to reach their full potential.
