Lenny Zakim Fund

The Lenny Zakim Fund was created in 1995 to honor Lenny Zakim’s life’s work and to perpetuate his legacy of fighting for social justice and bridging racial, religious and ethnic divisions. The mission of The Fund is to identify, listen to, support and connect grassroots community organizations and programs operating “below the radar screen” of large charitable groups and government grants. The Fund provides financial support, technical assistance and networking opportunities to those who demonstrate the will and potential to make a difference, but lack the necessary resources.

The Zakim Fund is proud to support the South End/Lower Roxbury Youth Workers’ Alliance (YWA). The Fund feels its grant to the YWA supports individuals who directly impact the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in our community. By building connections among youth workers from many different programs and parts of the city, their work mitigates against turf barriers and isolation. When violence dramatically increased in Boston last summer, the resources of the YWA were central in helping the city leadership take action to address the crisis.
