Speakers included Mayor Menino, Dr. Carol Johnson (Boston Public Schools), Kristin McSwain (Boston Opportunity Agenda), Ed Pauly (Wallace Foundation), and Jennifer Sloan McCombs (RAND Corporation).
On August 10, 2011, Boston Beyond joined Mayor Menino and others on a visit to Sociedad Latina's implementation of the Summer Learning Project, which served students from the Tobin school in the BPS district. The Boston Neighborhood Network filmed the video above during the visit.
As the City continues to make strides toward economic recovery, Mayor Menino emphasized that true progress should be shared widely, and recounted the progress of the last year. Today at the Josiah Quincy Upper School, Mayor Thomas M. Menino kicked off a pilot program to test the new, innovative BostONEcard. The program combines a student's MBTA Charlie Card, Boston Public Library card and Boston Centers for Youth and Families community center pass into one electronic card carrying the separate barcodes. The cards also have barcodes that will be scanned for school attendance and food service.
